Charter Bus Transportation Service

You may not have previously thought of it, but charter buses are an excellent way to easily and reliably travel in groups. Charter buses can be used for work-related outings, personal outings, or planned tours. Think about the hassles involved in getting a large group together and planning the travel arrangements. Perhaps the destination is a few hours away or there will be plenty of drinking involved. Charter buses can be the perfect solution.

Without charter buses on a group event, there is always the issue of how you are going to get everyone to the event in a timely and organized fashion. Anytime there are more than two or three cars involved you have to worry about caravanning, travel time, and others getting lost. With a charter bus, you all are together on the same vehicle, arriving on time, together. The use of a charter bus transportation service can be a real stress reliever.

When considering any particular charter bus transportation service for your next group event, always check their credentials of the company. It is required that all charter bus drivers be completely licensed and regulated to ensure the safety of all passengers. Feel free to check the safety record of the charter bus service against its competitors. You cannot afford to hire a charter bus transportation service that has a poor safety rating or has no credentials.

Another important factor to consider when hiring a charter bus company is to check out what they offer. Many such companies offer point-to-point bus services to and from almost any location you wish. Still others will allow for multiple pick-up and drop-off locations. These services often depend on the particular contract agreement you choose. Different charter bus companies use different bus models, so it is also wise to check out the amenities offered on each bus. Perhaps there are reclining seats, bathrooms, reading lights, and carry-on storage bins. It is important that you check for all of this.

Before you book any reservations with any charter bus transportation service, make a list of questions to be answered. Never sign up right away with the first bus service you deal with – it is best to do a little comparison shopping and go into the negotiations as an informed consumer. This is an ideal plan for any kind of shopping, not just charter buses.

When considering a charter bus company, you will definitely want to ask the following questions:

• What are your passenger capabilities?
• How many vehicles do you have and what kind?
• Are you licensed? Are you insured?
• Is a damage deposit required?
• Can you accommodate people with special needs?
• Are there any additional fees?
• How long have you been operating?
• What is your cancellation policy?
• Is there a mileage limitation?

Always be sure to ask these questions upfront so that you are not surprised later on. Getting charter buses instead of driving several cars to any event is economical, fun, and safe!

Public Transportation Concerns

Gas prices are being constantly driven up in price in both Canada and the United States and it doesn’t appear as though anything is going to be able to stop this crisis from happening. Gas prices are leaving millions of people in a dilemma of whether to drive or not to work, or if public transportation might be a better option. Now though both the public buses and taxis want to instate new fares to coincide with the current gas prices. The taxi drivers have been complaining that they aren’t making any money due to the high cost of gas prices and they feel that they need to increase fare prices to help with the gas costs. Buses are also planning to raise their fares but this shouldn’t take effect until early 2009.

With public transportation risking raising their prices this is making it even harder for people to travel around now as some are forced to start walking now. It’s also not safe to walk in some inner-city neighbourhoods at night and with the cost of taxis many women are being stuck walking alone at night to their houses. This could pose a number of problems and concerns, and frankly it’s only one of the problems with the gas prices rising so high.

Many people aren’t driving around much except to work and are staying in more often which isn’t good as people need to get out. It’s also caused lots of people financial hard ache because they are being forced to either fill-up at the pumps or take public transportation which is also on the rise.

There isn’t much solution to the problem though and this is only the early stages of the problem. There isn’t any magical stashes of oil that nobody has found and there isn’t any oil growing on trees anywhere so people need to begin to adapt to the fact that what once was something taken for granted is now a near used up resource. There is still enough oil to last considerable amount of time but the price will only continue rising and never drop because the fact is there isn’t anymore oil once this is gone so countries are charging more for it to try and use less. This is also the reason behind hybrid cars and such that run on alternative energy and is a lot safer for the environment and less of a burden on your wallet.

If you’re moving anytime soon make sure that you move close to where you work because in the next twenty years it’s going to be important that you live close to everything like work, school, food and such things because gas is going to be extremely costly. So either you must adapt to a new source of energy or you’ll need to spend a nice chunk of your pay checks on gas and leave hardly any left for other necessities. Wise people are already switching to other means of energy powered vehicles and these early adapters will be best suited in five to ten years when everyone begins to make the change.

Airport Transportation

An airport shuttle refers to a bus or car that offers airport transportation services at the airport carrying people to and from the airport. This is also referred to as airport transfer. People who fly into Toronto hire the airport shuttles. Other airport transportation services from Toronto airports include airport limousine services, airport car services and airport transfers.

Most of the airport transportation services used are professionally run and operated to ensure client comfort and security. The costs of airport transportation vary depending on the type of airport shuttle used. Airport limos are the most expensive due to the prestige and quality services that come with them. Airport transportation has been made easy taking into consideration that the passengers could be fatigued from their flight or eager to go to their destination.

How to hire an Airport Shuttle

There are several ways to hire an airport shuttle while in Toronto. This includes walking into one of the various companies running airport transportation or airport shuttle services without an appointment. Here the procedure will include filling the required paper work and making the required bookings and payments for one to secure a booking. Another way of doing the same is by booking airport transportation services via the internet. This will involve looking up or searching for a preferred Toronto airport shuttle if one is familiar with them and following the booking procedures online. This kind of booking requires a credit or debit card for billing purposes.

Another way of hiring airport shuttle would be to use the regular phone directories or yellow pages where a list of the airport transportation companies is availed. Once one decides on the company to use, all they have to do is make a call and the hiring process is complete.

Another way to hire airport transportation is to submit a bid for the desired services online. With this method, only specific companies will be alerted. These companies will then call the client wanting to hire the airport shuttle and seal the deal.

Quality in Airport Limousine Services

For those who prefer a better selection, the alternative is to book the airport limousine services for your trip to the airport. An airport limousine will guarantee lavish and classy transportation. Limo luxury is however, a reserve for a few and is thus more expensive than a normal airport shuttle. The procedure for hiring is the same but the services differ. Airport limos are the best airport transportation means due to their efficiency and comfort.

Features in airport transportation should be scrutinized to ensure quality services. Airport shuttles just like other cars should be insured and registered. The cars should have quality meters to ensure that there are no cases of fraud when hired. Other features to look out for would be safety gadgets like fire extinguishers, properly working seat belts and a first aid kit. Before hiring, one should also be keen to find out if there are back up vehicles in case the car breaks down before the end of the journey or period of lease. One should also consider the availability of road rescue services for the same reasons.

Slow Transportation, Slow Destination, And Slow Recreation

In the good old days they used to say "getting there, is half the fun".

In fact, just the other day I heard someone spout this phrase which made me think, how many of us focus our attention on the actual travel to our destination, rather than the destination itself.

When planning a vacation, or just travel in general, we quite often only consider the actual destination and our itinerary during our stay. We simply assume, usually correctly, that the mode of transportation will be a quick jaunt on an airplane. This is especially true for blue-collar workers taking their one or two week vacation time they are given each year.

The old adage, "getting there is half the fun", still rings true today. Sadly, many of us miss much of the wonders and the beauty of the world by simply selecting the most rapid form of travel possible. Instead of selecting the most enjoyable methods.

For example, consider a trip to the Grand Canyon. It's quite easy to set up a flight, book your hotel rooms, and even arrange tours, and guides, all without leaving our desk. Basically, mapping out our entire itinerary in minutes.

However, if you live in the United States, especially anywhere in the Western states, consider what might be on the roads in between. A car trip from Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon can deliver some of the most beautiful views of nature in the world. It can also be extremely interesting in other ways. The bizarre roadside stands with two headed rattlesnakes in a jar, stories of phantoms in the desert, and gas stations that look like they were pulled directly out of an old B-movie.

The point is quite simple. Many of us practice Slow Travel when selecting our destinations. But we don't take the time to consider our mode of transportation to our destination. Our focus is on the destination itself, and the recreation available once we've arrived. All of which are quite important, but let's not forget those two little words: “SLOW TRAVEL”.

We don't call it slow destinations, nor do we call it slow recreation. We call it Slow Travel for a reason. The entire goal of Slow Travel is for each and everyone of us to slow down and enjoy the beauties and the marvels contained in the world around us. Our time on this planet passes extremely fast. Why would we make an effort to make it go faster?

Yes indeed, “Getting there is half the fun”. When planning their next slow travel vacation be sure to remember that phrase. Your entire trip will be much more pleasant and your frame of mind will be much more serene. After all, that is what your vacation time is for. Rest, relaxation, and some serenity. There's no need to be in a hurry, there's no need to race to your destination. It's highly unlikely that its location is going to change. Take the time to enjoy the things found in between.

Your Number One Transport Companion

The word scooter refers to a motorcycle that has a step through frame where its rider sits without having to straddle any part of the engine.

Another difference between the scooter and the motorcycle is the wheel size. Motorcycles have large wheels and average scooters have wheels that are between 8 and 14 inches in diameter. In scooters the engine is usually located underneath the seat and they use a continuously variable transmission that transfers the power to the rear wheel.

The first scooters were Vespa’s and these models originated in Italy. These scooters had a manual transmission with a gear shift and clutch built into the handlebars. This can still be found in some of the retro model scooters that are available today.

Scooters always include a front leg shield and a flat floorboard where the rider’s feet are placed. Storage space is normally located under the seat although in some scooters it can be built into the front leg shield.

Scooters use smaller sized engines and these can range from between 30cc and 250cc. Scooters under 49cc are classified as mopeds. Some of the most common manufacturers of scooters are Honda and Yamaha.

In recent years there has been a trend to introduce large scooters. These scooters have engines that are from 250cc to 650cc and include models such as the Honda Fusion and the Yamaha Aprilia. These more power scooters also have fully automatic transmission systems, which is preferrable amongst a lot of people.

In many countries around the world and especially in Europe and Asia, scooters are a very popular means of urban transport. This is mainly due to their size, weight, and the ease of parking and avoiding city traffic. Scooters are also very economical to run and maintain especially with the rising cost of fuel today.

A Car Transport Company

People who want to ship their old and new vehicles from different locations are faced with the problem of how to ship these vehicles efficiently. There are various cart shipping companies that take responsibility for shipping vehicles from one state to another and they are easily found in the yellow pages or even in the internet.

Before choosing a car transport company, it is important to take note of the reputation of the company particularly with respect to its efficiency in delivering vehicles at the agreed schedule. It is also important to note the accident rate of the trucking services owned by the said company y.

It is important to know that shipping vehicles through a cart shipping company is not like shipping any document via the regular postal or Fed-Ex services. Unlike documents which are generally –predictable, the shipping of vehicles can be more complicated because of the many factors involved.

When a car shipping company commits on a date for the delivery of the vehicle, it should not be taken as an exact delivery date schedule but more probably a mere estimate of the delivery schedule. Car shipping companies are faced with several factors that can cause delay in delivery such as mechanical problems. However, delay in the delivery of vehicles is most often caused by the clients themselves.

Clients can choose to have their vehicles transported either through an open or enclosed trailer or truck. Shipping your vehicles through an open trailer can be less expensive than having it shipped through an enclosed trailer. However, the client should be prepared for any damage that can be caused due to the exposure of the vehicle to the elements like heat and rain. If you are shipping a valuable vehicle then better choose an enclosed trailer to keep it safe.

Safety is a primordial concern so you should choose a shipping company that can present you a shipping package including insurance on your vehicle against theft and unexpected damage. To avoid trouble for the shipping company, better disable any car alarm system before having your car shipped.

Clients who opt for door to door delivery should know that this does not mean the delivery of he vehicle right in your front doors. This means that the shipping company will deliver the vehicle at the nearest pick up point on you end. Do not expect a ten wheeler truck to traverse your area just to keep their door to door delivery promise.

Trucking companies usually require cash or even just an initial payment before delivery is made. Make sure that you are prepared with cash to pay the balance at the time the vehicle is delivered to you since most companies do not accept credit card payments.

A Thriving Business - Heavy Transport

Heavy transport refers to moving heavy material from place to another. Material movers are the people who perform such transportation. These heavy transport workers need special training if they are to work with chemicals, toxic material or specialized machinery. Physical training is required where extreme physical exertion is required. Heavy transport workers require a good sense of balance. They must possess the ability to read, understand and judge. Possessing basic arithmetic skills is also an integral part of this business. Many employers allow experienced workers to qualify as a trainee or a supervisor.

Category of Heavy Transport Workers

Workers in the heavy transport industry may be categorized into two groups: the laborers and the operators. The laborers work manually while the operators handle machinery and other equipments. These are the industrial truck and tractor operators, crane and tower operators; dredge operators, underground mining loading machine operators, pump operators and many others.

According to their designation, these workers perform their duties. Like the truck, tank and ship loaders work for loading and unloading material at the dock. The shuttle car operators are responsible for the running of electric or diesel cars in the underground mines. Machine feeders are responsible for oiling and maintaining machinery. Wellhead pump operators take care of smooth flow of gas or oil from power pumps and auxiliary equipment. Similarly, all types of workers strive to do their particular assigned jobs. They are, thus known according to the work they perform.

Heavy Transport: Nature of Work

Heavy transport work is repetitive in nature. It may seem monotonous to workers. Therefore, shifting the duty time seems an appropriate option. Workers generally put in eight hours shifts and some times even longer. Many factories have round-the-clock shifts. Workers are hence required to do night shifts as well. The working conditions of heavy transport workers are at par with any other profession, when it comes to the hours put in.

Heavy transport is a thriving business. It provides employment to large number of people. It is on this business that a large number of big enterprises and factories depend.

Save Fuel With Economical Transport!

Motorcycles are economical transport! Think about it! Two wheels, light, at most using only six cylinders and usually carrying one passenger.

You’re obviously looking to save fuel? Find out why bikes are fuel saving vehicles, an answer to pollution, traffic jams, parking problems and boredom.

Beat Traffic!

Cape Town’s traffic!

Nothing compares to sitting for an hour, meandering to work at 10 k’s, breathing in lead and co2 while your fellow commuters pick their noses.

Why not convert to economical transport with a long-lean Boney? Convert and slip between the cracks! Beat the multitude to the office at only 30 – 40 km per litre and still have time for coffee when you get there!

Parking Problems

Remember being a kid, riding your bicycle to the shop and dumping it just about anywhere? Parking it on the pavement, on the grass, riding on the sidewalks etc.

It’s rare, if not impossible, to get parking fines on a motorcycle, it can happen, but cops seem to actually like bikes, letting them be!

You’ll not only avoid fines, but you’ll also find parking everywhere - you won’t have to pay for it either. Now that’s economical transport!

Bikes that Save Fuel

Your average 125 cc motorcycle can keep going on one tank for the whole week.

Usually comprised of only one cylinder, these little fuel saving vehicles are the mechanical versions of Bruce Fordyce! Like a long-distance runner with a high metabolism and a long lifespan, good brands include Go-Moto, Jonway and LML. Hell! Even Jamie Oliver rides one!

These are available at most motorcycle dealers in Cape Town.

Bigger Bikes

From experience, a 400 cc Suzuki Bandit consumes 18 litres of fuel per 250kms travelled. Not bad considering a tank costs only R55. Larger bikes can consume as much fuel as a car, so check with your dealer before purchasing.

Convert to Economical Transport

Bikes are an effective way to save fuel and are as exciting as shaving past the Grim Reaper down a dark, dank graveyard road! While the points mentioned in this article are tinged with odd bits of humour, they’re valid!

Look around, cars jam the streets, we can’t see the Drakensburg Mountains from Rhodes Memorial and our energy supply is questionable.

How do you feel about the situation? Now, think Tuc-Tuc, think Scooter, think bike!

Auto Transport Tips For The First Timer

So, you want to have your car transported a specific location huh? And this is your first time? You must be tentative because you’ve never done this before and you don’t want anything to go wrong, especially due to the significant investment your car has been. Transporting your automobile doesn’t have to be a nightmare. A thorough understanding of how it works will help you ease your mind of the problems that may result of such.

1. Trailers

There are many transport trailer options, the most popular among these types is the open carrier transport. The open carrier transport, aside from being popular, is the least expensive mode of transporting automobiles. Usually, your automobile will be transported on haulers like the ones used to deliver new cars. These trailers have a capacity of eight to ten cars. They are around 80 feet long and 14 feet high. With their immense size they are limited to traveling on major roads that are free of possible obstacles such as trees and such. They are also limited to traveling on roads that can support its weight. These trailers cannot maneuver easily on tight turns.

This is a good way to transport automobiles - the only downside is that your car may not be that well protected against the elements, dust, and wear and tear usually associated with highway travel.

2. Enclosed Trailer Transport

This is by far the most expensive option but all that cost is worth it because your car will likely be in better shape than if it were transported via an open transport carrier. This type of transport is the best for rare, exotic, or expensive cars. Automobiles to be displayed during car shows are usually traveled using this type of transport. It provides the safest, most secure method of auto transport.

3. Self-Transport

There are other people who prefer to transport their vehicles themselves. This is the riskiest way to transport your vehicle, especially if you are unskilled in such operations. Usually this is performed by renting a trailer and driving the trailer yourself.

If you do choose this type of transport, you may want to learn more about the trailer and its operation. You should ask the owner for instruction and hints on operating such an automobile.

- Always discuss your automobile with the transport service before you agree to the terms
- Make sure the service knows what your car looks like, its dimensions, and possible problems that may be encountered when delivering
- Make sure everything is understood before closing the deal

4. Be aware of the pick up time and transport time

Pick up time is the amount of time it takes from receipt of the order to transport until your automobile is loaded unto the trailer. This time is usually 2 and 10 days. Transport services appreciate a three day allowance to find a trailer and assign your car to that trailer.

Transit time will take about 8-10 days. This depends on the destination and route taken. These trailers will usually carry about ten automobiles at the same time. And as me makes the necessary stops to deliver each automobile, he could use up a lot of time. So, it would do well to be patient during these times.

There are also deals such as guaranteed delivery and express service. These deals will make sure your car gets delivered earlier, but will cost much more. If money is no question, then by all means use every method possible to keep your automobile safe and secure.

Wedding Transportation:

One of the last things a couple will think about when planning their wedding is how to get everyone there and back. But this is a special day, so you don’t want to be piling everyone into a station wagon to get to the church on time—unless it’s a really big station wagon.

Getting to the vows

The bridal party as well as the couple themselves may want to invest in a limousine to transport them from the salon or hotel to the church or chapel. Not only does this free up everyone to indulge in a little champagne, but it also takes the stress out of who is driving, if they show up on time, making sure that everyone can fit into the car without wrinkling the dresses or tuxedos too much, etc.

One of the best ways to handle this is to have the bridal party meet at the hotel the morning of the wedding. This way, the bride and her bridesmaids can take the limo to the salon while the men can go out for golf or breakfast. After they are done, they can change and shower at the hotel and then have the limo take them to the church. After the beauty treatments are done, the women can return to the hotel to change into their dresses and then take the limo that has returned by now to the church as well.

This way, the groom and the bride don’t see each other, but everyone rides to the wedding in style.

Leaving for the reception

After the vows, the bride and the groom will normally ride off in a limo for pictures or to go to the reception early to freshen up. If the bridal party has another limo, then they can all ride together; if not, a few people can drive. At this point, a lot of the pictures will have been taken, so it won’t be as important to have the least amount of wrinkles in the outfits.

And after the reception, the bride and the groom may choose to hire transportation between the reception and the hotel. This is a costly option, but if the two are far apart, it’s also wise. When you have guests from out of town, this may work out well as they may not know their way around.

If you do plan on offering transport, let guests know in the invitation.

Consider These For Your Wedding Transportation

It is very important for you to plan ahead for your wedding transportation. In fact, you have to do with carefully. There are cases that the vehicles do not show up on the wedding day. The conditions of the vehicles are also very important. You may not want to get a car which is very old. Besides these, there are also a lot of other considerations. This article will give you some tips for you when you are planning for your wedding transportation.

The first thing you need to do is of course to search for some vendors. Reputation should be the first thing you have to consider when you are searching for a wedding transportation vendor. To this end you will need to ask for the opinions of your friends who got married. They will certainly give you very valuable advices. Alternatively, you can also ask on your online forums about wedding. The members of the forums, who are most likely people who are going to get married, will be more than happy to help you and answer your questions.

There are a lot of couples who would like to save some time and try to hire a vendor on the web. However, this should be totally avoided. This is because some of the vendors on the web do not own their own vehicles. The are running the business in the form of affiliates, which means that they will refer your order to companies who have their own vehicles.

To this end you will understand that it can be very risky to hire a wedding transportation vendor on the web. The problem here is that you have nearly no control on the quality of the services. It will just ruin your perfectly planned big day if the vehicle does not show up on your wedding day.

You need to order as soon as you have made your final decision on your wedding transportation vendor. If it is possible, you should try to do it half year before your big day. If you are planning to have your wedding on a popular day, you will need to place your order even earlier. As a matter of fact, it is very popular for couples to have their weddings on Saturdays.

It is also very important to list every detail in the contract when you place your order. It is important to make everything black and white. Some of the things that should be list are the third party insurance, penalties if the car does not show up etc.

You will also need to plan the routes carefully with the vendor. In most cases, you will be arriving the venue of your wedding at least 30 minutes before. It is also very essential to discuss with the vendor how it will be arranged if the car break down when you are traveling to the venue. You will also ask clearly about how the drivers will dress up. It can be always good to discuss with the vendor beforehand if you have any special requirements for that.

Electronic Logistics - The Money Saving Solutions

The concept of conventional logistics covers all activities relating to the procurement, transport, transhipment and storage of goods. Logistics as generally understood is concerned particularly with material flow (raw materials, interim and final products), but also involves providing companies with services and information.

Nowadays the development of electronic information and communication technologies affects all spheres of life. Naturally, it influences significantly economic life, including logistics. As a result, nowadays it is possible to speak about electronic logistics as extremely perspective field for further development.

On researching the problem of electronic logistics, it is primarily necessary to dwell upon the methods that are traditionally used in the related researches. Basically, it is possible to use phone inquiry, face-to-face interviews with companies implementing electronic logistics in their business. Also it is possible to interview management consultants and IT suppliers.

Obviously, nowadays electronic information and communication technologies are widely used in the field of logistics. As a rule, it is widely used in buying and selling transactions, as well as material follow transactions. It is necessary to point out that logistics services providers use electronic logistics wider than companies operating in the field of manufacturing and trade.

In the current a situation, the advantages of electronic logistics are evident since it creates new operating models that provides a company with a competitive advantage compared to the companies using conventional logistics. It also permits to develop efficient management of larger entities and correct information in constantly changing market situation.

Nonetheless, it is necessary to emphasize that electronic logistics is a relatively new field and it makes its first steps in the contemporary business. In such a situation, certain obstacles and challenges, the companies implementing electronic logistics face, are quite natural. Among these obstacles and challenges may be singled out the following: scarce financial resources for investments, lack of capabilities of network parties, lack of standards, challenges in integrating inter-company information systems.

However, electronic logistics is still quite popular due to the perspective of business process re-engineering skills, since it provides the possibility to use technologies to support business processes.

Thus, electronic logistics is a very perspective field that needs further research in order to provide better opportunities to its proper implementing and wide use.

Transportation Software

Transportation Software is a broad term. Large shippers and carriers began developing transportation software in the 1960’s when mainframe computers became more widely available and affordable. Large LTL carriers such as Roadway Express and Red Ball were pioneers in the field. It is a little known fact that the freight industry created E.D.I. (electronic data interchange) during this time frame. Early transportation software was custom built and run on company mainframes at the large carriers and shippers. As with so many other fields, transportation software for small or medium sized companies did not begin to materialize until after the introduction of the I.B.M. personal computer in 1980. Transportation software can be as simple as software used to calculate point-to-point mileage or complex enough to manage virtually all shipping functions of a carrier, broker or shipper.

Modern transportation software has standardized into basic functional groups based on the needs of shippers and carriers/brokers. Much of the available transportation software is sold with these functions as modules that can be purchased separately. Which modules are purchased is usually driven by the size of the company looking for the transportation software.

Transportation software as applied to shippers can be part of the much larger field of supply chain management or more narrowly focused on supply chain execution. Supply chain management can be defined as the application of information technology to economic order quantity theory. It encompasses virtually every function within a company that deals in tangible products and is usually best preceded by ERP. Enterprise Resource Planning is the company getting its data house in order. It can then think in a more focused way about supply chain management and execution.

Transportation software as it applies to shippers is most often associated with supply chain execution. The main functional groups here are the preparation of goods for shipment and the effective management of transportation vendors. The preparation of goods for shipment is a function of warehouse management software. The warehouse must stock the products that will later be shipped, pick the products that have been ordered and package or unitize those products for shipment.

Management of transportation vendors is an important function of supply chain execution software. Shippers usually need a number of vendors to cover their territory or find it beneficial to have vendors competing for business. Vendor management software uses objective measures to point out the best vendor for any given shipment based on price and service accomplishment. The best supply chain execution software allows for effective communication with vendors throughout the shipping process.

Transportation software as it applies to trucking or broker companies has standardized into three basic functional groups; dispatch operations, equipment management and accounting. Much of the available trucking software is sold with these functions as modules that can be purchased separately. Which modules are purchased is usually driven by the size of the carrier or broker looking for the trucking software. Very small carriers and brokers can manage dispatch and or equipment on paper. Accounting functions at this level are well served by software packages such as QuickBooks or Peachtree. Carriers that grow beyond 10 so trucks and brokers with 20+ loads per month or can usually begin to see the value of having one or more of the transportation software modules.

Transportation software designed for the accounting functions is the least likely of three to be offered as a stand-alone product since it depends upon the others for data. Payroll functions can be derived from dispatch operations data such as which driver went where. Invoicing and receivables are also derived from dispatch operations data as in which customer sent what where. Equipment expenses are derived from equipment management functions. Transportation software designed to integrate with the over the counter accounting packages such as QuickBooks can ease the transition for many small carriers and brokers.

Equipment management functions of transportation software revolve around fuel and maintenance costs. Fuel, tires, periodic maintenance, and repairs are all important costs to be managed by every trucking company. This type of software can get very complex but is essential to larger carriers and can be a good value to smaller companies. The availability of fuel cost data on the internet has given carriers a new tool to manage those costs as in where and when and how much fuel to buy. Transportation brokers do not have these concerns.

Transportation software designed for dispatch operations is the most likely of the functional groups to be offered as a stand-alone product. It is also arguably the most important of the three functional groups. It is the most important because it can have the greatest impact on customer service. Freight brokers in particular should recognize that this software can give them a competitive advantage. Equipment management and accounting functions are internal; dispatch operations touch every customer the carrier or broker has in one way or another. Dispatch operations is all about keeping the right drivers with the right equipment in place to services the customers’ needs and take advantage of opportunities that arise. Managing those resources is important but the best dispatch software also gives dispatchers and managers tools to monitor work in progress and communicate effectively with customers.

The internet has given rise to two interesting new developments in the field of transportation software; software as a service and networking as a new functional group. Software as a service is delivered via the internet by subscription and has the following advantages:

No large upfront investment as in traditional buying of software.

No new hardware costs. Your existing network, internet connection and browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer are all that are needed.

Pay as you go. This type of software is often available month to month without a contract.

Maintenance and upgrades handled at the web server with little or no bother to the user.

Networking as a functional group is a new development made possible by the internet. Dispatch software can now be extended onto the customers’ desktops. Carriers, brokers and shippers can collaborate to give and get the data that they need to get the job done. Customer service is greatly enhanced with true real time communications and the customer as a larger part of the process. TDNweb.com is an example of this new breed of transportation software.

4 Types of Transportation For Travelers to Paris

Traveling in a new place is usually not an easy task. It would be much better to utilize your traveling time more efficiently if you could have a more understanding on the transportation facilities of your destination. This article introduces four types of transportation facilities in Paris which gives travelers to have a more in-depth understanding on Paris’s transportation services.

1. Metro and RER

Metro is the subway in the city while the RER (Reseau Express Regional) is the railway in the rural area. The subway service of Paris is started in 1900. Up to the present moment, there are 13 routes of subway and 4 routes of RER with total 367 stations which covers most parts of Paris. Therefore, if you could get used to the subway systems of Paris, it would be much leisure to travel around without any difficulties. The ticket fair inside city is unified as 7 Frs. for a single trip (billet). Ten- piece ticket booklet (carnet) is charged at 41 Frs. Besides, there is a Paris-Visite Billet which is specially designed for tourists. It is a pass for subway, RER and bus within a pre-set period of time. If you are staying in Paris for a longer period of time, you could choose to use the monthly ticket or the weekly ticket so that you take the subway, RER and bus whenever you like. Please be reminded that you have to take with you a personal photo (27 mm x 30 mm) in applying the fixed-time ticket in the station (guichet). Besides, it should be aware that the effective period of the monthly ticket is fixed from the first day to the last day of the month, and likewise Monday to Sunday for the weekly ticket. Therefore, you should count on the date when you buy the fixed-time ticket that how much the effective period is remaining.

2. Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient transportation as you could take it in any place. Usually it is easier to get the taxi in the taxi station (Tete de Taxi) in the main streets, hotel or the stations. Most of the taxi drivers are very familiar with the streets, and they could take you to your destination as long as you could mention you address clearly. Please be aware that the front seat is not for passenger, and one taxi could take 3 passengers in principal.

3. Public Bus

Most of the Paris residents like to take the public bus, but it seems to be quite difficult for tourists as they may not recognize the place to take off. However, you could enjoy the street scenery in taking the bus whereas the subway could not offer. Please be aware that you have to buy the ticket rather than just put the coins in. If you do not have a ticket, you have to tell the driver your destination, buy the ticket and put in the ticket cutter. Actually, you could use the subway ticket in taking the bus. You could just show your fixed-time subway ticket to the driver and you could get on and take off at any station you like. There is no station broadcasting service inside the bus and you have to ring the bell in advance before taking off. Therefore, it is suggested to take a bus road map at the information counter in the subway station, and find out the bus station name of your destination before you take the bus.

4. Tourist Ferry (Bateaux-Paris-ens)

Departure pier is at the Pont d’Iena which is near the Eiffel Tower. The cruise services could be divided as with and without meal provided. A single trip without meal provided is about 45 Frs. and the service hours are 10:00- 22:00 in summer time (depart in every 30 minutes) whereas 10:00-18:00 in wintertime (depart in every 1 hour). A lunch provided trip is about 300 Frs., departs at 12:30 while a dinner provided trip is about 550 Frs. departs at 20:30. Passenger must make advance booking for the meal provided cruise service and with formal attire on the trip.

The Face Of Short Range Personal Transportation Is Changing

You may have noticed recently some odd looking two, three and even 4 wheeled vehicles buzzing around your neighborhood, the mall or the city sidewalks and streets. Portable scooters, pocket bikes and mobility scooters have for many replaced those short car trips these days. With the price of gas well over 3 dollars a gallon in most parts of the country, its making more and more economic sense to utilize these types of personal transportation vehicles.

Remember when you were a kid and you had a two wheel push scooter? Maybe you never had one as a child, but in fact they have been around for a long time. They became popular for children in the early 1900’s as a toy and were still quite readily seen into the early 70’s. From those humble beginnings of course someone put a motor on it and the powered scooter was born.

There are many types of scooters these days to be certain, ranging from the low cost low profile sleekly designed push scooters that are reminiscent of the first push scooters we knew merely as a toy, to super fast motorized pro versions that can scoot along at 40mph or more. Some scooters are gas powered, some electric, and yes the ever popular foot powered scooter still is loved by many

Pocket bikes are sometimes referred to as mini motorcycles and are very small, single person transportation devices, usually only about 47 inches long and 18 inches tall, usually with gas motors that are 50cc’s or less. Pocket bikes started out as a fad but have gained popularity over the years. Many different styles are in production today, ranging from Harley Davidson look a likes, to those that resemble most of the modern motorcycles on the market. Pocket bikes not only have become a new type of racing phenomenon, but also have gained popularity as a personal transportation device, usually with those of a younger age group.

Simple motor scooters with small gas engines like those that became popular in the late 60’s and early 70’s from several major motorcycle manufactures have again gained great popularity. Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and others have again begun to produce moderately priced motor scooters again, that have the unique U shaped leg space in the middle of the frame structure for “sit” riding rather then straddle riding. These companies have also begun to produce some much more powerful scooters as well, sporting in upwards of 650cc engines and more.

Cushman scooters were once among the most recognized and sought after scooter in the industry. Cushman scooters, among the first power scooters produced, were constructed in my home state of Nebraska at a plant in Lincoln from the 1930s through 1965. The Cushman scooter became iconic in its following and even today remains in the minds of many scooter enthusiasts, as the best scooter ever built.

The advent of better battery technology gave rise to a new kind of scooter that has greatly improved life in general for persons with disabilities or health issues that hinder personal mobility. The personal mobility scooter usually configured on a three or four wheel design, has become quite popular as well as helpful to a new demographic of scooter user. Mobility scooters help in many ways inside the home and out in the world as well. People can live independently longer with the help of these mobility scooters. Clean, quiet and easy to operate from armrest controls, personal mobility scooters have become a sort of saving grace for many with mobility issues.

Travel and Transportation

Travel and Transportation forms the backbone of infrastructure – the major sector of any economy. Millions of people and businesses rely on an extensive, inter-related network. Transportation & logistics

The markets are on the move: Due to advancing globalisation, declining trade barriers and an increasingly mobile workforce, the transport and logistics industry continues to enjoy above average growth. By expanding their service offerings both upstream and downstream, transport companies and logistics service providers are also becoming masters of their supply chain, both forward and backward. Many companies in the industry are following manufacturers into new sales markets such as Eastern Europe and East Asia, which, in turn, have long ago become source markets with growing exports. Supply chains often stretch around the world and require a global business strategy. International growth through acquisitions, joint ventures or alliances is often crucial to their economic survival. Some companies try to position themselves optimally in profitable niches; the "big ones"—many of them former government-owned enterprises—have become capital market oriented global players. Companies in Europe operate on partly regulated but increasingly liberalised markets, while legislation and fiscal law have until now, only been partly harmonized. New technologies also create significant investment requirements.

Logistics & Transportation Industry

Each segment of the Logistics & Transportation industry – including air transport, motor freight, railroad and water transportation, pipelines, logistics (3PL/4PL) providers or couriers, and support services – is under pressure for meeting greater customer expectations, improving return on assets, minimizing operating costs, optimizing capacity and promoting operational excellence.

Companies in these segments have to be at the forefront of adopting new technologies that allow time-specific delivery and electronic tracking of cargo. For example, In-cab mobile computers and transponders, as well as satellites, are increasingly being used to monitor goods and vehicles efficiently. Additionally, the increased adoption of just-in-time inventory management by manufacturers is forcing the freight-transport industry to reshape and meet their demands.

In a rapidly changing environment, it is imperative to ensure that IT investments help rationalize costs and provide the intelligence to optimize inter-modal flows, both from a cargo and freight route perspective.
